City of Goldsboro to Send Annual Notices Regarding Water Service Lines

As required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the City of Goldsboro will once again send annual notices to residents regarding the material composition of their water service lines.

Last year, the City’s Engineering Department completed a comprehensive inventory of water service lines throughout the city to determine if any pipes contained lead. We are pleased to report that no lead service lines were found in our system.

In accordance with ongoing EPA requirements, the City will mail notifications to more than 8,000 households with service lines made of galvanized material and to those with service lines whose material composition remains unknown. These notices are informational only and are not a cause for concern. Service lines containing galvanized material will eventually need to be replaced, although the EPA has not established a timeline for this work. Lines with unknown material composition will need to be identified. Letters will begin going out Friday, Oct. 31.
