City of Goldsboro nears completion of new comprehensive plan

Requests community input on draft recommendations

The City of Goldsboro is undergoing a new comprehensive plan for growth and development. Elevate Goldsboro is taking a fresh look at the City’s future. Once completed this summer, the plan will describe the vision for the City, a new strategy for land use, and an actionable plan for the future.

The City continues to seek community feedback during the planning process, and the final round of public input sessions are coming up. The community is encouraged to drop in any time during one of two identical community workshops on Wednesday, Feb. 25, in the Multipurpose Room at the WA Foster Recreation Center (1012 S John St., Goldsboro, NC 27530). The workshops are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 4:30–6:30 p.m.

“We have been pleased with the community’s response to this important plan,” says Mark Helmer, Planning Services Manager for the City of Goldsboro. “As we get closer to finishing the plan, we hope even more residents will join us at a workshop or visit to project website to let their voice be heard. Residents can choose either option for the workshops and drop in anytime to participate.”

The Elevate Goldsboro Comprehensive Plan will guide future development decisions and establish a future land use map and policy framework that aligns with the region’s projected growth. While the plan will describe preferred development patterns and community goals, it will not change the City’s current zoning ordinance or zoning map.

Information about the first phase of engagement and an overview of the project and process is available on the project website, www.ElevateGoldsboro.com. Future engagement opportunities include a second survey in the spring for the public to provide input on the plan recommendations. Elevate Goldsboro is expected to be completed this summer, and once adopted, it will be used to guide decisions related to growth, development, and other recommendations in the plan.
