City of Goldsboro to Begin 2-Inch Galvanized Water Project
Goldsboro, N.C. — The City of Goldsboro has contracted with T.A. Loving Company to begin work on the 2-Inch Galvanized Water Project. This citywide infrastructure improvement effort will replace aging galvanized water lines.
The project consists of abandoning existing 2-inch galvanized water lines at multiple locations throughout the city and replacing service lines and all associated components. Work will take place across 71 blocks within the city limits. Construction is anticipated to begin in October or December. Once started, the project will be completed within a 365-day contract period.
“This project addresses one of the largest maintenance issues in our water system,” said Jonathan Perry, Engineering Services Manager. “Aging galvanized lines are prone to corrosion, frequent breaks, and reduced capacity. Replacing them will improve water quality, reduce service disruptions, and prevent unnecessary street cuts.”
An American Rescue Plan grant will fund the $5,999,395 project. A federal initiative passed in 2021 to support pandemic recovery, the American Rescue Plan included critical funding for infrastructure projects across the country.
“The city is fortunate to have these funds to address basic critical infrastructure that will ensure safer quality drinking water for all,” City Manager Matt Livingston said. “We are committed to making sure taxpayer dollars are wisely overseen and applied for the benefit of all water consumers and customers as part of a greater effort in maintaining and enhancing our overall drinking water system.”
