City of Goldsboro Working on New Comprehensive Plan

Community input requested on a plan for the future of the City

The City of Goldsboro has kicked off a yearlong effort to create a new plan for growth and development. Elevate Goldsboro is a community-driven process that will establish a vision for the City, develop a new land use strategy, and create an actionable plan for the future.

The City will seek community feedback throughout the planning process, and the first round of public engagement efforts is underway. An online survey and interactive map are available on the project website, www.ElevateGoldsboro.com. The community is also encouraged to attend one of two identical community workshops on Wednesday, July 30, at City Hall, 200 North Center Street. The workshops are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4:30-6:30 p.m. Residents can choose one option and drop in at any time to participate.

Not only will the Elevate Goldsboro Comprehensive Plan help guide future development, but it will also establish a citywide vision and specific objectives for elements such as transportation, economic development, housing, infrastructure, public services, recreation and trails, and natural resources. While Elevate Goldsboro expresses desired characteristics for growth and development, it will not change the City’s adopted zoning ordinance and map.

“We continue to encourage our community to take an active role in Goldsboro’s future,” says Mark Helmer, Planning Services Manager for the City of Goldsboro. “We look forward to working with as many community members as possible during the Elevate Goldsboro process. They can start by visiting the project website to take the online survey and drop pins on the interactive map. Then, they should make plans to attend one of the upcoming workshops to share their ideas for the future.”

Future engagement opportunities include a second survey in the fall and more workshops in late winter for the public to provide input on the plan recommendations. Elevate Goldsboro is expected to be completed next summer. Once adopted, it will be used to guide decisions related to growth, development, and other recommendations in the plan.
