Police Performance and Achievement Awards

Chief West and the Goldsboro Department recently joined together to congratulate Major Anthony Carmon, Officer David Breckel, Officer Melvin Smith, and Sergeant Will Van Lenten for receiving the “Performance and Achievement Award” for outstanding dedication and service to the citizens of the City of Goldsboro. Congratulations to you all! 


COMMENDATION FOR LIFE SAVING
Presented to Major Anthony Carmon

Major Anthony Carmon distinguished himself above and beyond the call of duty on October 3, 2019, while serving as Major of Investigations with the Goldsboro Police Department, Investigative Bureau. Major Carmon responded to a call of a shooting in the 1200 block of North James Street and located a male victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. Major Carmon immediately rendered life saving aid while notifying emergency medical personnel of the urgency and extent of injuries. Major Carmon’s actions were directly responsible for the victim’s survival from being shot through the chest, which severed the spinal cord and exited the victim’s back.
Major Carmon’s undaunted courage and steadfast devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest values of service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Goldsboro Police Department, and the City of Goldsboro.


MEDAL OF HONOR
Presented to Officer David Breckel

Officer David Breckel distinguished himself by conspicuous acts of bravery and courage at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty on September 7, 2019, while serving as a Patrol Officer with the Goldsboro Police Department, Operations Bureau, A-Shift. Officer Breckel responded to a drowning call of a young child in the area of Slocumb Street. Officer Breckel immediately entered the pond where the young child was last seen. In this critical and selfless act of valor, Officer Breckel acted with complete disregard for his own life and safety while attempting to locate the young child.
Officer Breckel’s undaunted courage and steadfast devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest values of service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Goldsboro Police Department, and the City of Goldsboro.
