Public Utilities Warns Customers Not to Flush Wipes, Other Items

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, toilet paper has become a hard-to-find item throughout stores across the country. If you are using wipes or other alternatives, Goldsboro’s Public Utilities Department has a reminder for you: do not flush these items down the toilet. This is a violation of our Sewer Use Ordinance. Wipes (even those labeled as flushable), napkins, gloves and cloth rags can all contribute to sanitary sewer backups and overflows, and cause damage to our pumps.

Only toilet paper and human waste should be flushed. All other items should be thrown in the trash.
