Notification of discharge of untreated wastewater

General statute 143-215.1C requires the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface water.

In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to the media in Wayne and Lenoir counties.

The City of Goldsboro had a discharge of untreated wastewater due to a power failure at the Pecan Road lift station, which was discovered at 2 a.m. Jan. 16. After assessing the station, it was estimated that roughly 120,000 gallons was discharged, with at least 1,000 gallons reaching a ditch that flows to the Neuse River.

The Division of Water Resources was notified of the event on Jan. 16 and is reviewing the information.
